Here you can read tips about different garage door systems and solutions to their problems.
Selecting sprays for lubrication
Based on the knowledge they have acquired, our experts do not recommend the use of WD-40. It is better to use a silicone or lithium alternative that is sprayed onto the garage door. These products work particularly well for the locks, arm bars, stems and even nubs. Do not spray the chain rail. Just clean it.
Stopping hardening cement
The best way of preventing the cement from hardening too much is not to spray the door track. Resist this temptation even if there is some stickiness and noise that is disturbing you. Use a damp cloth instead and ensure that you dry the track later. In this way you prevent the accumulation of particulate matter.
Sand in garage door hinges and bearings
Those who live in semi-arid regions will know that dust is a problem and it becomes worse if you have used grease for lubrication. As a convenient solution, take out the bearings and any other moving parts carefully. Clean them with a dump cloth and add some high grade silicone lubricate before reassembling.
Maintenance is a must
Even if your garage door opener is renowned for quality and durability, like a Liftmaster or Chamberlain, you still have to do regular garage door maintenance work on it. Maintenance is not limited to cleaning and polishing. Inspections should be done to find out if there are defective parts that need replacement and to ensure that the safety features still work.
Use steel wool for removing rust from metal garage door panels
This basic tool works excellently for scraping off the layer of rust. If the accumulation is very thick and stubborn, you can also use specially formulated chemical rust remover. Just make sure that the product is completely safe. Apply it by following all instructions of the manufacturer.
